 Mobile TeleSystems, the country's largest mobile-phone company, will bid for a stake in Ukrtelecom, Ukraine's national telephone company, in order to expand beyond the home market.
"We're really interested in Ukrtelecom," Andrei Dubovskov, acting chief executive of the Ukrainian unit of MTS, told reporters in Kiev on Monday. "We have been asked to send the government our views on how the auction should be held. We have done this, along with our competitors."

 Both Sultan Ibragimov and Wladimir Klitschko blamed each other for the lack of highlights in Saturday night's heavyweight unification clash on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. "I was trying to use my strategy and fight the fight with my left hand, then my right hand to knock him out," said unified IBF/WBO/IBO champion Klitschko. "but, because of his defensive style, it was not easy to win the fight." Ibragimov explained, "In the fight I waited for his right hand and his right hand didn't come. I waited the whole fight and his right hand just came in the last two rounds."

 PISCATAWAY — Pysanky, or traditional Ukrainian egg decorating, has a lot of fans for the vivid colors and eye catching designs that can be displayed on eggs, but Catherine Barrek has another reason to love the folk art — she thinks it helped with the birth of her only child, Cathy.
Barrek, who took part in a pysanky workshop Saturday at the East Jersey Olde Towne Village in Piscataway, said she had trouble conceiving a child back when she was a kindergarten teacher 40 years ago.

 Millennium Capital reported that according to the Association of Secondary Metals, Ukraine's steel output will increase in 2008 by 7.8% YoY based on companies' plans announced. The figures are preliminary and are subject to correction.
Mr Andriy Ivasiuk analysts with Millennium Capital said that “We have a positive view on Ukraine's steel sector for 2008 and forecast an output growth of 5% YoY to 7% YoY.”
He however added that the coke issue remains to be the main challenge for the industry in 2008.”

 FRANKFURT -- Siemens (NYSE:SI) AG said it won a contract worth more than 30 mln eur to supply new equipment for Ukraine-based OJSC Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works' rolling mill.
The order includes mechanical and electrical equipment as well as basic and process automation systems, the company said in a statement.
